Back to Basics – Journaling

Why do we scrapbook? We are scrapping to tell our stories! Absolutely we are telling stories using our photos and papers and pretty embellishments and that is great. But we can’t forget our words, our story that we want to pass down to future generations.

Now there are tons of way to add your story to your page and I know a lot of people use computer generated journaling and I do as well from time to time but usually laziness kicks in and I just add my handwritten journaling to a page. Sure you may hate your handwriting – I certainly don’t love mine BUT it is a piece of you that you are leaving behind and I think it is a great thing – but as always this is just how your Scrapper on the Street does it and I believe there are no rules in scrapbooking so as long as you are getting your story out there you add your words however you like.

I am going to share with you some creative ways I add journaling to my pages.

You can hide it – not comfortable with your handwriting or having  just anyone read your story – hide your journaling.

Use journaling strips – and you can hand write or computer generate these the choice is yours.

Use stickers! When I’m too lazy to use the computer and I’m too lazy to write anything I use stickers to tell a story or express a sentiment.

Use song lyrics! In this layout the song title I used for my page says everything I want it to say.

Have fun with it, add conversation bubbles and be playful – don’t make your journaling feel like a chore.

I hope you find these ideas helpful in adding journaling to your pages. What techniques do you use to get your words and stories on a page I would love to hear them – comment below and let me know!

Great journalling tips. I rarely use my own handwriting anymore. My hand gets crampy pretty quickly and I tend to write BIG, so I never have enough room to write all I want to say.
I’m going to try for more lists and strip-journalling. :-)
